Expo Center Sharjah pioneered the exhibition industry in the Gulf. Established in 1977, it was the only venue to host exhibitions that provided regional industry a platform to showcase their products, bring in international traders and boost investment to the region.

In 1991, Expo Center was taken over by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry as its official exhibition organization. With this move, the exhibition center widened its horizons to match the growing market economies by introducing specialized trade fairs and solo-country fairs. Today, in 2000 its exhibition calendar has expanded and from five fairs in 1977, it hosts over 20 exhibitions a year.

It has introduced some of the most popular events to the Middle East that are awaited by industry watchers to enter this lucrative market. It plays an important role in supporting business in the region as it serves as an ideal entry point for new products eyeing the Middle East and Gulf markets. Thus, it directly and indirectly affects the economic, business and industrial activities in the region.
